This I Believe

I believe…

  • that torture makes the world worse off.
  • that there are things that, at one time, were bad for society but are now irrelevant to or good for society.
  • that it is OK for the government to display season greetings, but if it does, should do so for all holidays regardless of religion.
  • any country that attacks the United States had better be prepared for a full force retaliation.
  • that the same applies if the US attacks another country.
  • there is a difference between religion and spirituality
  • in a flat tax system.
  • that the government should provide tax breaks for children up until a certain number.
  • that religion influences peoples votes and their leaders actions.
  • that a god would not want you to believe in them in order to get their favor.
  • even if there wasn’t an afterlife, I wouldn’t lead my life any differently.
  • that teens shouldn’t be mandated to involve their parents in order to have an abortion. I also believe that social services should get involved at that point.
  • in an afterlife because it comforts to me.
  • that a revolution every now and again is a good thing
  • that eating meat is wrong, but some times necessary
  • that the state should endorse no religion
  • that a god would have better things to do then root for a sports team
  • that the first president of a century is the greatest, worst, blackest, most white, most homosexual, least tolerant, most accepting, and just about anything else because they are the first!
  • those who do not question, do not understand
  • that people who get in debt do so voluntarily
  • that there are always reasons for a crime, though not necessarily a good one.
  • that no one is evil.
  • the death penalty is an irrevocable and therefore unacceptable punishment.
  • anyone can be imprisoned for a crime they did not commit.
  • in swift punishment of criminals
  • that we should help addicts become addiction free.
  • that anyone who continues to become an addict is on their own.
  • that drug-users should not be entitled to anything.
  • that drugs should be legalized
  • that what two people do together is their own private affair.
  • that sex is fun.
  • that homosexuality is not wrong.
  • that birth-control should be available to all.
  • that wasted cells are wasted wrongly.
  • in abstinence and sex education.
  • that abortion should be legal but discouraged.
  • being a parent is a hard job.
  • a single parent can raise a good kid.
  • that homemaking is a real job.
  • that mothers can be good caretakers.
  • that fathers can be good caretakers.
  • that being genetically related to a child does not entitle you to that child.
  • that parents need not be genetically related to the child.
  • that parents should be notified if their child has an abortion, but should not have a say in the matter.
  • that credit cards should used only in emergencies.
  • that no one should live in debt.
  • that people should be able to own their own homes.
  • in a diversity of opinions and decisiveness of action.
  • that the person is smart and that people are stupid.
  • in helping the helpless.
  • that tyranny should be faced head on.
  • that the ends does not justify the means.
  • that what occurs in the bedroom between consenting adults is no one else business.
  • in the free exchange of information.
  • in freedom of the press.
  • in freedom of expression, as long as that expression does not interfere with others.
  • in a jury of my peers who can ask me questions.
  • that lying is sometimes necessary, but should be a avoided.
  • in preemptive strikes in self-defense.
  • in self-defense.
  • in swift, appropriate punishment for those who commit crimes.
  • in freedom and equality for all who do not commit crimes.
  • that flag burning is an expression of freedom.
  • that Jesus, Mohammad, and Buddha were all teachers.
  • most people think they are doing good things.
  • that all politicians flip-flop.
  • the hero’s of the world are the fire-fighters, police officers, soldiers, homemakers, and teachers.
  • in the principals of the Constitution of the United States.
  • that the higher up the government is, the less power it should exert on its people.
  • that if gods don’t exist, I will continue to do “good things”.
  • that education is a good thing.
  • in ethically governed scientific investigation and experimentation.
  • that most bibles contain interesting stories.
  • in universal health care for people under the age of 18.
  • in a government that is fiscally conservative.
  • that a waiting period for a gun is fine but that an instant background check is better.
  • that owning a gun is fine.
  • I could be wrong
