Timex watch to incorporate Speedpass

Timex watch to incorporate Speedpass technology This technology fascinates me. I love the simplicity it could provide, especially if there is a security protocol associated with it. One thing it doesn’t mention is if personal information is stored on the watch or if it’s just currency. Also, I wonder how it handles transferring cash.

What is Mr. Winkle? Buy your Mr. Winkle posters and calendars here! Okay, this is just a weird dog. The funniest part is that someone abandoned him. I can just imagine they are kicking themselves now.

I've been published! Okay, it's

Thursday, February 28th, 2002

I’ve been published! Okay, it’s just an extremely opinionated rant. As a follow up to this, I did order the DVD player over the web, walked into Best Buy to pick it up, and then asked to return it with my original receipt. The clerk was a bit confused, but seemed to agree with me about the policy after I explained the situation. Again, this was not about $9.07, (as I stand on my soapbox) it was the principal of the matter (stepping down now). Anyway, I hope Best Buy will review it’s policies on these matters.

ZDNet |UK| – News – Story – Eric Raymond: Microsoft doomed by cheap PCs Their are so many people who want Windows to die it’s ridicules. It’s as much a religious argument as anything and people confuse that with facts. The fact is that without Microsoft, computers would not be where they are today. When Windows 95 came out, Linux was barely runnable by geeks and hackers, much less the average consumer. As a result of Windows 95 and subsequent OSs have made computers available to the masses. Of course, where we go in the future is still up for debate.

Pope says abortion could lead

Thursday, February 28th, 2002

Pope says abortion could lead to down fall of democracies This isn’t a big announcement (this is the Catholic Church after all), but it does have an interesting point, albeit for the wrong reasons. I believe (and don’t quote me), but abortion rates are higher among free, democratic societies because those societies tend to offer the facilities more then other societies. Couple that with the fact that as women become more and more educated, they are putting off pregnancy longer and longer and you will see a slowing down of growth in that society. Meanwhile, lesser educated women in other societies are reproducing at an astonishing rate and they are benefiting from the medical technologies of the more advanced societies, resulting in more children living past childhood, causing their society to explode in size. End result, those societies who tend to be more repressive grow faster then those who do not. Then again, history has shown that when a society outstrips all other societies, the advanced society dominates the others. Eventually though the advanced society collapses, leaving a legacy of advanced culture for the rest to pick up scraps from. Ah well, guess we’ll see what happens. Oh, and society, society, society, society!

McDonnell sentenced to death for fourth time Either fate or someone important wants this guy to die. Four times! That seems a bit cruel. You could almost hear the warden going “Looks litke you’re going to live…Whoops, sorry, didn’t mean to get your hopes up but it looks like you’re gonna be executed.”

Leatherman Crunch This just looks

Leatherman Crunch This just looks cool. Right now I own an original Leatherman and a Leatherman Wave. The former has been a stalwart tool. The latter has resulted in me getting 9 stitches. Anyway, I like the Crunch because of the locking pliers and the hex wrench.

CG Online– Feature: DOS Games,

CG Online– Feature: DOS Games, Meet Windows XP I love old computer games. Star Saga, Star Flight, these were the games of my youth. I’ve been able to acquire a number of them again (and since I owned them and then lost them or they died, I don’t see a problem downloading them), so I get to play them when I want. XP runs most of them fine, but I will agree that sound is the biggest issue I run into. The article is well written, but it fails to mention another option, an emulator. Something like Virtual PC would give you an incredible amount of options. Now if it were only free. Of course, it would be nice if Microsoft incorporated similar functionality into their OSs at some point.
