Profiling

Friday, March 29th, 2002

Two dead, more than 28 injured in Jerusalem suicide blast There are a number of people at this time are advocating racial profiling to determine who to detain and search at airport security checks. There was an article out a month ago in which it gave a multiple choice about who should be searched by security, the last choice always being “Middle-Eastern Male Islamic Fundamentalist”. This article shows that it’s not possible to determine if any given person is a terrorist based on their skin color or sex.

What About the Children

I can’t understand sites that are basically legal child porn under fire

Part of me says these sites are wrong. They are telling kids that it’s okay to dance around for adults and expect money. And it is adults that they are cavorting around for because it’s a pay site.

On the other hand, to make something illegal because someone might get sexually aroused by it is an bad argument for illegalizing it. That same person is going to get aroused by non-commercial pics of a kid in a bathing suit put on a family’s website. Do we outlaw those?

I think that some people have become so obsessed with eliminating child porn from the Net that anything that might be porn needs to be banned.

I think the best line of the article is “You could tell by the postings that these weren’t kids who were viewing the sites. Some people were posting poetry” because we know, kids can’t write poetry.

Yahoo! News – Woman Loses Battle for Lottery Jackpot I have always had a problem with buying someone a lottery, for the simple fact that if they won, I’d smack myself in the head. Especially if they just gave me my dollar back :-) .

Lesbian Bathrooms

Thursday, March 28th, 2002

Father: Separate School Bathrooms For Lesbians Okay, so the first thing I gotta wonder is how do they enforce this? It’s not like homosexuals have a big old sign on their head. Second thing is, what school is this cuz there sure weren’t a lot of open lesbians in mine? What’s he going to do next, require that there be male and female gyms because a male gym coach might look at a female student? Ug, I swear there are some mighty dumb people out there. The really funny part are the comments that are being posted.

The Corporate Gauntlet

Walgreens wants teen to change site name Personally, I’d change my name to Wahl Green and register wahlgreen.com and tell Walgreen to go screw themselves. Okay, maybe that’s a bit extreme, but, at some point, corporations have gotten too much power for their own good. Actually it can be linked directly to money and lawyers. What will happen is that this girl will not be able to outspend Walgreen and will be forced to shut the site down. Why? Because America has the best laws money can buy. This little experiment that started over 200 years ago is quickly starting to collapse because the money flows to the rich (i.e. the corporations) and away from the poor. In turn, the rich pay to put people into office who pass the laws that the rich want passed. While the concept of our republic is sound one, our apathy towards voting and the current laws prevent the system from working. To paraphrase Jefferson, “A little revolution, now and then, is a good thing”.
