Um, since when is the Drudge Report is a right wing website?
I was the only person in the theater to laugh when the big secret was revealed in “The Crying Game“. So, when I see they’ve done a reality version of the movie, I hope that if I had been one of the guys involved I would have laughed when the secret was revealed. At least the guys got $235,569 for participation in the show. Hell, I’d kiss a guy for $235,569, especially if he had nice breasts. Then again, I’ve been poor
.
I was spoiled as a kid. Not this spoiled. At some point I learned the value of the dollar (probably when I was a poor college student), so I got lucky. My opinion is that if I had a kid that stole my credit card and charged $31,752.48 (17000 pounds), I would beat them silly and then turn them over to the police.
Well, I filed my takes Thursday using TaxCut. After I was finished, I was relieved. TaxCut is an okay program, but it does have it’s problems. I will still probably buy TurboTax next year.
Porn is responsible for the advent of two technologies. The first is VHS, which the porn industry propelled forward in the 80′s as a simple method of distribution. The second, and one I think is one of the two greatest inventions (next to the Guttenberg Press), is the Internet. Those who plowed around the Internet in the early to mid 90′s will remember that porn proved to be the most common business online (and may still be). So, when I see that porn is going to be broadcast in high definition, I get excited (not in that way!). It means that High Definition may start to become more and more mainstream. I don’t think that these broadcasts will affect Hi-Def adoption as much as it did the Internet and VHS tapes because the experience is not that wholly different then the current capability, but I think it will add momentum to high definition adoption. That and I think there are certian things that don’t need to be seen in as much detail.
I have known since the first day I bought my Tivo, that the company has the capability to “monitor” my tv usage. In fact, Tivo says it does aggregate, anonymous data collection in it’s privacy notice. So, I think that it is somewhat funny that people are “uneasy” that it was reported by Tivo that the Jackson/Timberlake was the most watched moment during the Superbowl. The Tivo is a computer and it communicates nightly with the company. As a result, everything watched on the Tivo is knowable by the company. Watch and be aware.
No matter how much the American society seems to veer from it’s puritan roots, things happen that reminds people that America is a prudish culture. The most recent example of this is Janet Jacksons/Justin Timberlake ‘boob incident’. A simple flashing of a breast has caused the entire nation to jump into a hissy, so much so that an FCC probe is now ongoing and other networks are jumping to address the issue. Here are some examples from the Washington Times article:
• {Janet} Jackson’s name was stricken from the official list of presenters for Sunday’s Grammy Awards telecast on CBS. That’s the same network that beamed us the Super Bowl game during which Jackson’s breast made its broadcast TV debut in a stunt that duet partner Justin Timberlake called a “wardrobe malfunction.” According to one source close to the production, CBS and the Recording Academy are waiting for her to graciously bow out; if she does not soon, they will uninvite her.
• ABC announced it will initiate a five-second delay on its live telecast of the Academy Awards so it can censor any “wardrobe malfunctions” or Bono-esque “[expletive] brilliant” moments.
• The NFL canceled this weekend’s Pro Bowl halftime show starring Timberlake’s fellow ‘N Sync-er JC Chasez because it was afraid of his choice of songs — “Blowing Me Up (With Her Love)” — and the accompanying choreography. Chasez has been replaced with “Hawaiian-themed entertainment.”
• NBC cut from tonight’s {Feb 5th) “ER” episode a shot of an exposed breast of an 80-year-old woman receiving emergency care, even though the network says it thinks the shot is appropriate.
Of course, even more amazing is that the American culture is hypocritical about the entire thing, crying out for punishment while at the same time getting caught watching the moment over and over again, thanks to Tivo’s anonymous reporting.
