Human Intelligence

Thursday, January 26th, 2006

Apparently, there are different types of intelligence used to find drug tunnels.  Here’s the qoute:

“Mack said human intelligence led to the discovery of the underground structure.

It’s from this article on CNN.  I wonder if anyone proof reads anymore.

Civil Disobedience

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

Civil disobedience is hard to perform. The urge to strike out, to emotionally attack what you perceive to be wrong often outweighs rational thought. Unfortunately the former happens more often the latter. But every so often a group of people will perform an act of Civil Disobedience that is both eloquent and effective. The students of Georgetown yesterday protested the government’s warrant-less wire tapping by turning their backs to Alberto Gonzales during he speech justifying the wire-tapping. CNN has the story, but a less polished version is found at insomnia’s blog with additional images. These students had more guts then I did (and since it’s Georgetown, more brains). It’s nice to see that people are willing to engage in a real protest of ideas instead of digressing into a protest of anarchy.

Gore's Speech

Monday, January 16th, 2006

Al Gore, for the most part, has the personality of a sloth. He’s better then John Kerry, but he is no Bill Clinton. But he is a smart man and his speech today really hit’s home a lot of the problems I have with the current administration and Congress (he’s smart because he agrees with me :-) . On any of the real issues, Congress votes down party lines. It scares me when our representatives and senators do not debate an issue or dare vote out of step with their party for fear of reprisal. It means that the government is not controlled by the people, it’s controlled by the parties. And in today’s world, the Republican party is controlled by this Administration. In the end “Emperor” is an apt reflection of the power this Administration currently has.

VIIV == X?

Thursday, January 12th, 2006

Work with me on this. VIIV is Intel’s new platform for the living room PC. It has some neat features. But the name got me wondering and then I noticed:

  • VIIV is also the roman numerals for 6 and 4.
  • 6+4 == 10. 10 in Roman Numerals is X. Apple just released OS X on Intel.
  • When Apple released OS X on Intel, its stock closed at 80.86. 80.86 is the first processor Intel made in the x86 line.

I’m not saying there’s a conspiracy. I’m just pointing it out!

Annoying

Monday, January 9th, 2006

Apparently in the waning days of 2005, Congress passed a law to make it illegal to anonymously annoy someone on the Internet. It’s one of those laws that get’s passed with good intentions (preventing violence against women) but with un-intended consequences (illegalizing anonymous blogging). For instance, this site is relatively anonymous. Sure, I post images of myself and my family, but my full name or theirs is generally hidden. Any competent hacked could find my information, but even my domain registration is anonymized so it will require some effort. Now, I’m sure some of my posts have annoyed people over the last 4 years. Does that make me a criminal?

10 reasons Gay Marriage is wrong

Monday, January 9th, 2006
  1. Being gay is not natural. And as you know Americans have always rejected unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.
  2. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that allowing Catholics to get married encourage speople to be Catholic.
  3. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because, as you know, a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
  4. Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn’t changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can’t marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
  5. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed. The sanctity of Britany Spears’ 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.
  6. Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn’t be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren’t full yet, and the world needs more children.
  7. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
  8. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That’s why we have only one religion in America.
  9. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That’s why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
  10. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven’t adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

Then and Now

Sunday, January 8th, 2006

It’s been 4 years since we got the pups. This is them then and now:

No Judgement For You!

Thursday, January 5th, 2006

Apparently God will strike down those in this life instead of waiting for them to die “naturally”.  At least, that’s according to Pat Robertson.  Most Christians are fine people, but occasionally you have a guy like Pat who just gives them a bad name.

Two Articles, Two Truths

Wednesday, January 4th, 2006

These two articles cover the same event: a court case where the defendent has to prove Jesus existed. The CNN article writes “baffled as to why [the plantiff]… singled [the defendent] out in his crusade against the Church“. The other writes the plantiff “began legal proceedings … after the [defendent] denounced [the plantiff] in the parish newsletter for questioning Christ’s historical existence“. Two articles, two opinions of the truth.
